We have another big weekend in college wrestling and football. I haven’t been so excited to do absolutely nothing on a Saturday in awhile. If you need me Saturday I’ll have my phone and I’ll see your call/text, but I can’t promise I’ll answer. This weekend we have D2 and D3 collegiate duals and NFL playoff football! The reason we are all clicked on this link though, and are reading this article, is because the #3 ranked team in D2 UW Parkside is heading to Cedar Falls Iowa for the National Duals this weekend.

The #3 Parkside Rangers journey to Iowa on Thursday to get ready to wrestle Friday morning in a 2 day tournament. The Ranges are bringing a very talented and deep squad to national duals and they will be among a few teams who have a legitimate shot at winning the thing. Unlike D1 the D2 National Duals has the best teams all competing. This really is a dual national tournament. A total of 16 teams will be in the bracket this weekend. Of those 16 teams, 15 of the 16 are nationally ranked (King = UR) and 9 of the top 10 teams are in attendance. #8 Lander is the only top 10 team not in the bracket.

That means every single round is going to be a fight and you cannot take anyone lightley. The #3 Rangers are seeded 7th and will open up action Friday morning at 10am on Mat 15 against #14 Central Missouri. They currently have 4 ranked wrestlers in their lineup while the Rangers have 7 who will be in the lineup. The 8th ranked wrestler, #3 Spuhler (won midwest classic) is out at 149.

Assuming the Rangers win their 1st round matchup they will then see the 2 seed and the #4 ranked team in the country Central Oklahoma. Central Oklahoma (UCO) was previously ranked #1 but our Rangers beat them in team score to win the Midwest Classic Title last month. UCO also has 7 ranked wrestlers and they are good! It obviously goes without saying, but this is a massive dual and it will test the Ranges squad. Most matches will be nationally ranked matchups and there will be swings both ways. Whichever team can ride the storm of the downside swings better and get back on track will be victorious. Not to be cliche but not just every match, but every point will matter in this one. If the Rangers won their first round match then tune in live on Mat 12 at 12pm to watch this dawg fight.

I could say every match in this one is a key match, but I’ll select a few. At 125 the Rangers 2x All American Corrigan has fallen down to #11 in the rankings after being in the top 5. He will face #5 from UCO Morris. The Rangers will need the point scoring machine Corrigan to get back on track in this one. At 149 #3 Spuhler for the Rangers is out and Easton Worachek will be stepping in against #7 Brown from UCO. Nobody panic because Worachek is more than capable of getting the job done. He has multiple nationally ranked wins in the past and this will be a great test for him especially when the team will need him. Again I could highlight every match but I’ll give one more. The very next match at 157 will be #1 Johnson from UCO vs #4 Durocher. Durocher has been having his best year yet. The senior is always tough for anyone to score on and he has begun to really find his own offense this year. He will get a crack at the #1 guy in the country.

After all that if the Rangers win they will not wrestle again until the semifinals at 11am on Saturday (Mat 12). They would be facing the winner of a quad that has the #5, #7, #12 and #21 ranked teams. After that it would be the finals on 3pm Saturday on Mat 13. If the Rangers make it this far I would expect them too see a familiar face, NSIC conference rival #1 St. Cloud.

This weekend is going to be awesome and I can’t wait to watch, check results, and take it all in. I hope you do too! All the action can be watched live on Flowrestling.

Blow is the list of guys who are traveling and could be getting matches.
