This past weekend Wisconsin native Benji Peak and current Wiscosin Badger Braxton Amos took the mat at the Senior Greco World Championships in Belgrade Serbia. Peak competed at 72kg and Amos at 97kg. 

Peak lost his opening round bout 1-3 to Robert Fristsch of Hungary. Peak took a 1-0 lead into the second period. Fristsch then scored 2 at the start of the second period and a step out point. Fristch held onto this lead for the remainder of the match. Fritsch then lost in the following round, eliminating Peak from the tournament. 

Amos won his opening round bout 12-6, defeating Vladen Kozliuk of Ukraine. Amos scored an early 4 points with a throw off of Kozliuk’s arm spin. After Kozliuk tied it up 6-6, Amos was able to score 6 more points and secure a 12-6 win. 

Amos then lost to Makhmudov of Kyrgyzstan 2-5. Makhmudov then lost to eventual world champ Artur Aleksanayn of Armenia in the following round. Amos was then eliminated from the tournament. 

Looking ahead, current Wisconsin Badgers assistant coach Seth Gross takes the mat this weekend at 61kg. Gross will compete Saturday the 17th at 4:30-8:30am. Gross takes on A. Dzhelep of Ukraine in the first round.
