Amery continues to be a powerhouse program year in and year out. Amery is led by 5th year head coach Mike Kelly who won NHSCA and Wisconsin coach of the year in 2021. During his years as head coach Amery has won 2 team state titles (21,22) and Coach Kelly has coached 4 state champs, 21 state placers, 27 qualifiers, and most recently coached Koy Hopke to a U17 freestyle world title.

Amery is looking to repeat for a 3rd year after winning back to back team state tiles. They won their first team title in 2021 beating Prairie Du Chien 40-31 to cap off an undefeated season (14-0). In 2022 Amery went 9-1 overall and claimed their 2nd team title beating Luxemburg-Casco 36-30 in the finals. They have the talent to repeat this year with 4 returning medalists and returning state qualifier Brendan Burke.

For Amery to make a run at another team title they need some wrestlers to step up and replace the 3 hammers that graduated last season. They are without their state runner up Eddie Sines who went 44-9 last year and placed 2nd at 160. At 195 they lose Kale Hopke who was also a state runner up and finished his senior year 40-10. And they also lose their heavyweight state champ Robert Beese who finished his year 50-4. That is a lot of firepower and team points that Amery will lose this season. In the team state finals last year Sines and Hopke both got first period falls and Beese got 6 points from a DQ. That is 18 of the 36 points they scored in the finals. Amery will need someone to step up and get bonus points. One of those wrestlers that will look to step up is senior Brendan Burke he was a state qualifier last year and will look to get on the podium this year.

Amery kicks off the season Dec 1st at 6pm where they have a tri dual with Ellsworth and Somerset.
