The high school season and the state tournament are officially in the books, but Youth State is only days away. Not seems like the perfect time to take a look back on last year’s Youth State tournament and see which of those 8th grade wrestlers at the time had a big impact this past season as freshman on the high school level.

Let’s take a look and see which of these freshman boys and girls wrestlers made the high school state podium and placed in the top 3 at WWF youth state less than a year before.

Ryan Gartman placed 3rd at 90 pounds at youth state a year ago. He qualified for high school state in D2 at 106 this season for Grafton.

Kolten Muller won the 90 pound WWF state title with a tech fall. He lost in the bloodround of high school state to Moody at D1 113.

Bryce Feran was the 90 pound runner up to Muller at youth state. He qualified for the D2 106 high school state bracket this year.

Brodey Lewis won the 95 pound WWF state title last year. He followed that up by winning the D1 106 pound state title over Woerpel this season.

AJ Woerpel was undefeated going into the high school state finals this year at D1 106. He fell to Lewis. Before that at youth state he won a WWF title by major decision at 100 pounds.

Madox Mau was the 3rd place finisher at 100 pounds in Woerpel’s WWF bracket. Mau lost in the D2 106 pound state finals this year 4-0.

Mason Moody won a WWF youth state title at 110 pounds over Brenden Henderson. He then placed 5th at D1 113 high school state.

Brenden Henderson was the state runner up at youth state to Moody. This year in high school though he made the state finals at D1 113 losing to Cam Rugg.

Corbyn Weiss placed 3rd in this same youth state bracket (110). This year in high school he placed 3rd in the D2 120 pound bracket behind Bollig and Rochon.

Lincoln Swick won the 115 pound WWF bracket a year ago. At high school state this year he placed 3rd for Oconomowoc.

Reece Vendegna was the 115 pound WWF runner up to Swick. This year he qualified for the D2 113 pound state tournament.

Jacob Penzkover was the runner up to Bastien at 125 Youth State.

Isaac Foster was the 130 pound WWF Youth State champ by tech fall. In high school he made the D1 144 pound bloodround before losing to DuChateau.

Dax Steinbach won the 145 pound Youth State title last year. This year he was a high school state qualifier.

Easton Kammerud won the WWF state title at 160 pounds last year. In high school he made the D2 165 pound state finals and fell to Haakon Peterson.

Maximo Xolo placed 3rd in that same WWF bracket at 160lbs. He then placed 6th this year in the high school state D3 175 pound bracket.

Jacob Phelps won the WWF 175 pound bracket. At high school state he was in the same bracket as Xolo but ended the year as a state qualifier.

Grant Melichar placed 3rd in the 175lb WWF bracket. He qualified for Port Washington in the D2 165 pound bracket.

Caleb Walshire was the 190lb WWF Youth State champion. He qualified for high school state at D2 190 for Wilmot Union.

Kade Splinter dominated his way to the 210lb Youth State title. In high school he placed 3rd in the D2 215lb bracket.

Girls

Bronte Bethel won the 80lb WWF girls state title. She qualified this year for the girls 100 pound high school state tournament.

Mya Beckett won the girls 95 pound WWF bracket. She then qualified and placed 6th at the girls high school 100 pound bracket.

Ellie Hultman was the runner up in the 95 pound Youth State bracket. She qualified for Bay Port at 100 pounds girls high school state.

Cora Stewart was a youth state champ in the 105 pound bracket. This season in high school she placed 4th at 120 pounds.

Skya Scrimgeour was the 105lb WWF 3rd place finisher. She qualified at 114 pounds for high school girls state.

Sophia Anderson was the 112 WWF youth state champion. In high school she made the state tournament at 107 pounds.

Jasaiya Jackson was the WWF 112 pound runner up to Anderson. She too qualified for state at 107 pounds.

Morgan Johnson made this 3/3 as she placed 3rd in the WWF 112 pound bracket. At high school state she placed 5th at 120 pounds.

Olivia Soumphonephakdy made a big jump. She was the WWF state runner up at 118 pounds but qualified this year for high school girls state at 138.

Cora Bighley placed 3rd at WWF 118 pounds. She was a 126 pound girls state qualifier this year.

Faye Schachtner won the 125 pound WWF Youth State bracket. In high school she placed 4th at Girls 132 this year.

Penelope Juarez won the WWF 138 pound state title. Less than a year later she qualified for state at Girls 152lbs.

Anna Hackbarth placed third at WWF girls 138. She qualified this year at Girls 145 for high school state.

Aaliyah Miller was the 152lb WWF state champion. This year she qualified for Girls state at 152 pounds.

Bryn Schmidt won the girls 172lb WWF bracket. She qualified at high school girls state 185 and placed 4th.

Addi Treuthardt was the 172lb WWF state runner up to Schmidt. She placed 6th at girls 152 pound high school state tournament.

Laila Medley was the 172+ state runner up in youth. She qualified for high school state this year at 235.

Bridget Meshirer was the 172++ youth state runner up. She also qualified for the high school state girls 235lb bracket.
